Attendance
The school office is the first point of contact for any attendance issues. Good attendance and punctuality are essential to the progress of each child and parents are encouraged to ensure that their children do not stay away from school without good reason.
Punctuality is very important. Doors open at 8:45 a.m. and close at 9:00 a.m. when registers are taken. If your child arrives after 9.00 am you should report to the school office and they will be recorded as late. Parents should telephone the school on the first morning of their child's absence and this should be followed up with a letter on the child’s return to school.
The office staff are responsible for monitoring attendance and punctuality throughout the school. They are supported by the Local Authority Attendance Officer.
The school attendance officer is available to speak to parents/carers of children who are experiencing difficulties regarding punctuality and attendance. Please come into school if you need any help or advice in this area. Those who are persistently late or absent will be referred to the Local Authority Attendance Officer and the parents/carers will be requested to attend an Attendance Panel Meeting.
We do appreciate that it is not always possible for parents to take holidays during the school holiday period. However, if children are taken out of school during term time, their progress may be hindered. Only holiday requests which meet the ‘exceptional’ criteria as defined in our Attendance Policy, can be authorised – all other requests will be unauthorised, and a fixed penalty notice may be issued.
