Governance

Welcome to Rock Ferry Primary School from the Chair of Governors

Welcome to the Rock Ferry Primary School Governors page. My name is Mark Easdown and I am delighted to have been elected Chair of Governors in September 2021. I am keen to continue the superb work undertaken over the last ten years by our last Chair, Jennie Richmond

At Rock Ferry, we encourage our pupils to “Be Kind, Be Safe, Work Hard and Never Give up” a vision shared by staff, families and Governors alike.

My current professional role is Deputy Chief Executive at The Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead.  My main areas of responsibility are HR, Finance and Operations all of which enable me to support the school. I have been involved with the Scout Association for 20 years and very much enjoy supporting children and young people to be the best version of themselves.

The Governing Body is made up of parents, staff and representatives of the community.  The governors have a range of duties we are legally bound to carry out.  Using the members’ skills, knowledge, and experience to support the headteacher and senior leaders, we all work together for school improvement.

The governors have the following main responsibilities: -

  • to help set the strategic direction using the School Development Plan
  • to review and monitor the children’s progress and achievement
  • to act as a critical friend to the headteacher and staff, offering support and constructive advice and also challenging and asking probing questions when necessary
  • to make decisions around safeguarding, health, and safety, staffing and premises
  • to set a legal budget in line with the school’s priorities.

The role of the governor is a voluntary one. We all give freely of our time to read the paperwork, attend meetings, visit classrooms, attend special events and enrol on courses and training.

I have always been impressed by the strong leadership provided by Ms Radley and her team at Rock Ferry. The team ensure that each child has access to a safe, happy, and diverse learning environment. Academic success is important, but the school understands that school life involves far more than that, and we will always support activities that enrich the learning and life experiences of your child. The school will always support its pupils with their social and personal development and offers a high level of wellbeing support to its pupils.

The school recently attained a ‘Good’ outcome in our Ofsted Inspection of 2020.  This reflects the excellent work undertaken in school that can only continue to thrive with the full involvement of the whole community.

I am proud to be a member of the Governing Body at Rock Ferry Primary School.  I would like to thank Governors, staff and parents for their commitment and loyalty to the school in ensuring that we are part of a shared vision of continuous improvement.

If you would like to contact me, please do so through the school office.
