Right to Withdraw

At Rock Ferry Primary School, we aim to work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure that all pupils receive a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum. We recognise that parents are the primary educators of their children and we respect their rights regarding certain areas of the curriculum.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

In line with statutory guidance from the Department for Education, Relationships Education and Health Education are compulsory in all primary schools and pupils cannot be withdrawn from these aspects of the curriculum.

However, parents and carers have the right to request that their child is withdrawn from some or all of the non-statutory Sex Education elements that may be taught as part of the school’s wider PSHE curriculum.

Religious Education (RE)

Under the Education Act 1996, parents and carers also have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) if they wish to do so.

If you are considering withdrawing your child from any of these elements, we encourage you to discuss this with the Headteacher so that we can explain the aims and content of the curriculum and answer any questions you may have.

If you decide to proceed with a withdrawal request, please complete the relevant withdrawal form available on this page and return it to the school office. We will make appropriate arrangements for the supervision of pupils who are withdrawn from these lessons.
